Associations and Corruption

Get a few hundred upper middle to upper class citizens with the same profession together, and a "self governing" body will be naturally created to protect their own interests. You may recognize these bodies as "Medical Association" or "Bar Association", but in every case it exists to invalidate outside complaints and protect their members.

Notice that members of the most corrupt associations are NOT allowed to even criticize each other, or their own profession at large. The very people that have the expertise to provide solutions to problems within their own ranks are gagged from even admitting there is a problem! This prevents innovation within the profession and prevents whistle blowing against the most egregious members.

Compare this to the scientific community, where dissent and debate are encouraged.

Lack of diversity in the medical and legal ranks feed these arrogant and protectionist associations and prevent members from different cultures from entering the system. The province of Ontario has a doctor shortage, yet plenty of doctors, why? The doctors are immigrants, and are not let into the medical monopoly despite being qualified.

Self governing bodies are inherently biased, and incapable of fair and reasonable solutions.

Avoid solving the systemic problems in the medical system.
